a mosaic of terroirs
Rolled pebbles
These pebbles were transported from the Alps by the Rhône during the Ice Age, when it covered the entire valley. They are mainly composed of coarse quartz mixed with red sandy clay. They store heat during the day and release it to the soil and vines at night, allowing the grapes to ripen properly. It’s a characteristic element that has made Châteauneuf-du-Pape famous, and one that can also be found in our vines.
Clay-limestone soil
Clay is a rich, fine-grained rock that retains water. Clay soils are known for producing powerful, concentrated wines, as in the Vacqueyras and Gigondas appellations, where we find this type of soil in our vines.
